A Busy Jubilee Holiday

The Orinoco Events team has had a busy holiday week with two Jubilee celebrations and three playdays in seven days. If you ‘ve been to one of these events and seen how much work goes into one you’ll understand why we’re all a bit tired right now.

We were in Abingdon on Saturday 2nd June, booked by Abingdon Town Council for their Fun in the Park & Dance Festival which kicked-off  the Town’s Jubilee weekend celebrations. We stayed in Jubilee mode to run art activities for the Highfield Residents’ Association street party (Headington) on Sunday 3rd. Here, we got very, very, wet but survived to play another day.

During the holiday the Oxfordshire Play Association organised three free playdays funded by the MOD. They were held at Vauxhall Barracks, Shrivenham  Defence Academy and Dalton Barracks. Perhaps not surprisingly, constructing tanks out of boxes was a recurrent theme, with some magnificent creations. At Dalton Barracks we also made some fantastic working crossbows.

That’s all for now. The next outings for the events team will be on the 23rd June where we will be running creative play at the Bullingdon Fun Day and at the Sustainable Energy Fair and Open Day at Westmill Wind Farm & Solar Park.
