Swap Shop

Swap Shops are a great chance to get rid of all kinds of unwanted but re-usable items and/or pick up something useful. They are held on the second Saturday of every month between 11am and 1pm in the main hall at the Bullingdon Community Centre (next door to the scrapstore).

You don’t have to bring something to take something away – and you don’t have to take anything if you bring something. Perhaps a better name would be ‘dump or grab’, but Swap Shop is catchy and somehow it stuck.

So what are you waiting for? Sort out those old clothes, toys, CDs, books, plants, ornaments, kitchenware, pictures, furniture, tools, garden tools etc. Anything you bring should be genuinely re-usable, non-hazardous and clean. We can test electrical items for electrical safety.

We ask that all swappers respect our equal opportunities policy and follow the ‘fair play’ rules so that everyone has a chance to take away something they want .

If you have something too large to bring along, like furniture, just bring a photograph and stick it on our notice board along with your contact details. Alternatively, consider using Oxford-Freegle or the Emmaus furniture store.

There is more information on furniture reuse and other disposal option on the Links page.

We have a car park, but it can fill up at busy times. Please be patient when unloading, and think of residents if parking in the nearby streets.

All items left at the end of the day will be offered to local charities. Unwanted items will then be sent for recycling or disposal as appropriate.

Our first Swap Shop was held on 10th March 2007, and one has been held every month since, with only one month missed due to the bad snow of January 2010. Every month we save over half a tonne of waste from landfill.
