Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a member to come to Orinoco?

No. We are here for everyone. Some scrapstores are only open to members; not us. We have a three-step plan:

  1. Turn up.
  2. Have an exciting time finding stuff to buy for next to nothing.
  3. Go away happy.

Do I have to be a teacher, child minder, youth worker, etc. to come to Orinoco?

No. We are here for everyone. Some scrapstores are only open to ‘trade’; not us. See our three-step plan above.

Do I have to be in receipt of benefits or a low income to take paint, get cheap prices, etc.?

No. We are here for everyone. Some scrapstores are only interested in customers who have social need; not us. We offer the same low prices to everyone. Did you see the three-step plan (above)? If you feel you can afford to make an additional voluntary donation towards our work we would, of course, be most grateful.

What do you do with the money you raise?

Have you seen our prices? We don’t generate much in the way of surplus because we charge so little for the things we sell. We don’t sell things to raise money for anything other than running the store that sells the things. The whole reason we exist is to make the amazing things in our store available at the lowest possible cost.

So what do you do with the money you raise?

It’s okay; a lot of people ask that question twice. We teach people about scrap art, about decorating with part-used paint, we run events and we run the scrapstore. We do everything on a shoestring so that we don’t have to charge lots of money for our gorgeous things.

I don’t live miles away from Oxford, do you do mail order?

No. But there may be a scrapstore nearer to you; Orinoco is not alone. Check out the Directory of Scrapstores at Scrapstores UK.
