Orinoco Update
Friday 8th December 2006
We're all busy preparing for the Oxford Green Fair on
Saturday December 9th. The Orinoco van is
packed full of exciting and creative Christmas stock to tempt the city
centre shoppers (we hope). The fair, in the Oxford
Town Hall - St Aldates, will be running from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
Admission is 50p, OAPs 20p & children free. There'll be over 70 stalls,
crafts, music and (according to the poster) much more... I can't wait and I
hope to see you there. |

Orinoco Paint helped turn the door of an old washing machine into a fabulous
fruit bowl. We'll have a range on show at the Green Fair, along with
rejuvenated mirrors, benches made from beds and other delights. |
If you'd rather come to the store on Saturday the 9th (and I can't blame
you, because it's a welcome break from the Christmas bustle, it will be open
as usual between 11am and 4pm.

Christmas Stock
|
 |
The mountain of Christmas goodies we brought in from businesses and
Scrapstores far and wide is rapidly reducing but we've still got loads of
lovely pot pourri in a variety of unnatural colours.
We've also got fabulous shiny silver paper in strips and huge rolls:
perfect for wrapping presents or making paper chains without any mess. 10
metres of 1.5m wide silver wrapping paper is £2. Everything else is by the
bag as usual. |

Paint and DIY
|
 |
We've had another Focus DIY windfall. This time it's not
paint but home wares (including waste bins, dish drainers and cutlery
tidies) and DIY goodies (including sandpaper strips, sanding sheets, sanding
blocks and a selection of pads and electric drill attachments for removing
stubborn paint). |

The pilot scheme to open a second RePaint outlet by teaming
up with Oxfordshire Community Volunteer Action (OCVA) is going really well.
Their store is open from 9.30am to 12.30pm from Monday to Friday [visit
the web page for information and directions]. They don't have as great a
range as the main store but it's still worth a visit. |
AGM
|
| The AGM and Christmas sale raised an additional
£250 (which was nice) and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The Indian
buffet went down particularly well. Councillor Anne Purse (Oxford County
Councillor for Wheatley division, our guest of honour, was impressed by the
store and congratulated volunteers, members and staff alike for working to
make recycling fun and relevant. Thanks to everyone who helped or came along
and spent money. If you're kicking yourself for missing a great evening,
don't... because we've got to have another one! Regrettably, due to
pressure of work, our treasurer was not been able to attend on the 14th and
we were forced to conclude the meeting without accepting the accounts for
financial year 05-06. An extra-ordinary general meeting was called in order
that this could be done. You will receive notification of the date of the
EGM in the next update. |
