Orinoco Update
Thursday 5th April 2007
|
Happy Easter (and Passover) from all of us at Orinoco
The store will be open as usual on Easter Saturday (07/04/07) and there
will be opportunities to play with clay, plaster and scrap with Howie in the
main hall. If you're around this weekend, it's a great time to visit, with
lots of exciting new stock to tempt you in... |
Swap Shop
Don't forget, the next Swap Shop will be on
Saturday April 14th. You can help publicise the Swap Shop by
downloading a copy of the poster and either printing it out for your
notice board at work or emailing a copy to everyone you know. [click

We've got so much new stuff we can't open the door...
It's piled as high as an elephant's eye. We've got: big sticky labels,
straws, little plastic bits that connect the straws together, kite string,
kites, kite material (spot the theme emerging here), cartridge paper, huge
sticky labels... |
 |
Luminox @ Orinoco
If you enjoyed the Luminox installation on Broad Street last month you'll
be pleased to know that all that lovely bamboo didn't go to waste... Orinoco
grabbed a load of it to use in our garden. |
 |
Thinking of having a Barbie?
Well here is your answer. Thanks once again to the Luminox crew we've got
loads of bags of top quality charcoal. These bags would cost you £4.50 in a
garden centre (I checked). Our price is £1 a bag for members, £2 a bag for
everyone else. |

Focus DIY have Done it again.
We've got around 1000 litres of beautiful, brand new paint and exterior
wood / terracotta treatment from Focus DIY. If you're planning any DIY over
the Bank Holiday it's well worth a look. |
New Materials? Doesn't that defeat the object?
I never thought I'd say this, but sometimes scrap alone isn't enough. For
this reason, the Orinoco ArtShop has been set up. We are now selling Paint,
brushes, glue and a range of other useful art items in the store. Use these
new items alongside our lovely scrap to give your projects that little bit
extra. |

Extraordinary General Meeting held on Tuesday 20th March
Thanks to everyone who came along to this short meeting to approve out
accounts. If you would like to read the minutes of this (or any other)
management meeting or view the end of year report (Year ending June 30th
2006), please visit
www.oxorinoco.org/committee/ |
Fabric Sale
The Fabric sale was a great success. We sold £260 worth of fabric and the
store took £278.40. Thanks to everyone who came and to the volunteers who
made it work. We still have one pallet of fabric left, so if you missed the
sale, don't panic.
This event marked a successful end to our most successful month of
trading since the store re-opened for business this time last year. The
store raised over £2000 in March through sales and membership fees. |
Grant Success
The Doris Filed Trust has awarded Orinoco £1000 towards the cost of
adding new shelving at the store. This is a real boost to a project that we
think is vital if Orinoco is to survive and continue to expand. Thanks to
Volunteer James Schumann for getting the application sorted. |
Diary Dates
Through April and May the store will be open on Tuesdays and
Saturdays from 11am to 4pm. Additionally, we are often in the store on
Monday and Friday afternoons sorting and tidying from 2pm-5pm. Please ring
the store - 01865 761113 before visiting on a Monday or Friday. |
| Saturday 07/04/07 |
Easter Saturday Fun in the Scrapstore. We'll be making bunny
rabbit masks, mad easter eggs and all kinds of suitably themed things. |
| Saturday 14/04/07 |
SWAPSHOP II (because the first one was not an unmitigated
disaster). |
| Saturday 21/04/07 |
Student Challenge. Product design students from Middlesex
University will be attempting to solve problems and build devices and
structures using our scrap. Work with them, set them challenges or just
watch and enjoy. If you are a teacher with a tricky curriculum related
problem please send it in and we'll set them to work at solving it. |
| Saturday 12/05/07 |
SWAPSHOP III (because we're beginning to enjoy the ride). |
