Swap Shop This Saturday (09/06/07)

It's the second Saturday of the month already so get sorting through your junk because once again it's Swap Shop time. Turn up and leave stuff, turn up and take free stuff or both. Plus, Howie's delicious Sandwiches and a selection of Samozas and other delights. Usual time, 11 to 4. Tell all your friends and download the poster. [www.oxorinoco.org/swapshop/]

Orinoco Reorganisation

The Orinoco Reorganisation continues at a frantic pace. We have completed fitting the new shelving in the Scrapstore itself and have now added new pallet racking to the storage area in the entrance. It's still a little tricky to find everything but we're getting there.

Down on the Farm

Everyone certainly threw themselves into this one. We were a popular addition to this year's Headington Festival. Thanks to funding from the Festival Organisers we were able to let people 'stay and play' or 'take scrap and go' for free.

Prizes of theatre tickets, book tokens and organic strawberries were awarded to Starlight the Horse, Percy The Pig, The happy farmer, Dolly the Sheep and the scarecrow with no name (and no picture). We need an address for Starlight and Percy's owners please or Howie can't send you your prizes. A special prize was awarded to the amazing giraffe, which towered over the Orinoco Van. Cowley Road Carnival (01/07/07)

If you're thinking of going to Carnival, don't forget that Orinoco is your best source of low-cost carnival costumes.

Thanks to support from The Carnival, we're holding free Scrap-Art sessions on Saturday 23rd and 30th of June from 11am-4pm. Come along and make a carnival costume for FREE.

Howie has been asked if Orinoco can run some children's activities at the Carnival. Famous for his inability to say no to people, he has on this occasion said, you guessed it, yes. However, he's going to need help so this is a big shout out to all our members and supporters. Please consider helping us out on the 1st by giving an hour of your time to support Howie and the team. To volunteer, simply reply to this email and say when you could be available.

We've also received an urgent appeal for help from the Cowley Road Carnival Committee. They need to find 100 volunteers to help on Carnival day, this could be anything from staffing the information point to heading the procession with a collection bucket. End of Year Party (30/06/07) from 5pm

Saturday 30th of June is the last day of the Orinoco year. This past year has seen many changes at Orinoco and a lot of hard work by Orinoco staff, volunteers and members to make Orinoco a success. It's hard to believe that only a year ago we were threatened with closure. To celebrate our rise from the ashes and to say a big thank you to one and all, we're going to throw a party. Come along, we'd love to see you there.

Diary Dates

Through June & July the store will be open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 11am to 4pm. Additionally, we are often in the store on Monday and Friday afternoons sorting and tidying from 2pm-5pm. Please ring the store - 01865 761113 before visiting on a Monday or Friday.
