Orinoco Update
11th April 2008

Before K-Nex there was
Connect-O-Mech. This, all British, construction system was made by
Oxford Educational Products Ltd. and proved popular with both teachers,
students and hobbyists. in the late 1980s and 1990s. Connect-O-Mech is a
system of tubes, connectors, gear and pulley wheels all made from rigid,
unbreakable plastic. It's versatile, flexible and terrifically good fun.
We've got boxes and boxes of bits which we need to turn into construction
kits. They're not on sale yet but if you'd like a sneak preview and a chance
to play with the kits why not join us for the big sort out. Call the store
01865 761113 or if you'd be interested in helping. [Connect-O-Mech Page] [Teachers'

Orinoco not in Bicester - sorry!
Apologies to anyone who tried to catch up with the Scrapmobile in
Bicester on April 1st. Howie's daughter Amy stuffed a pearl up her nose (as
three year olds with a sense of comedy are wont to do) and he had to take
her to casualty. All ended well and the pearl was speedily removed without
harm. Apologies also to anyone who showed up on the 8th of April (the date
we accidentally advertised in the last update).
We will next be in Bicester on Tuesday May 6th between
2.30pm and 5.30pm. Directions to the Courtyard Youth Arts Centre at:

Cricket Force
Once again we have been the preferred supplier of paint for the Cricket
Force weekend, the annual repaint of cricket clubs across the County.
Because of this, the Paint store is therefore a little low on white paint at
the moment. |

The Wider RePaint Community
We are used to getting calls from Schools who want to repaint their
buildings but we were a little amazed to get a request from Africa
this week. Lamin Jabang wanted some paint to send to The New Missionary
Primary School in Pine Line, The Gambia.
Mr Jabang, a hotel manager from
Slough, runs a small business exporting soft drinks. The containers he uses to
send the drinks often have space left after he's packed them so
he sends out useful things for the community. We were happy to oblige and
look forward to seeing photographs of the results. |

There's been a blunder
If you recently joined or renewed by post you may not have been sent your
free scrap vouchers with your membership cards. We apologise. The lost
vouchers are now in the post to you and should arrive by Monday (14th
April). If you don't get any vouchers by the end of next week and you think
you're owed some please call 01865 761113 or . |
Help, we need you...
Can you spend some time to help Orinoco?
- We need volunteers to spread the word about Orinoco and sell Orinoco
Activity Kits (like the Connect-O-Mech, Sticky Pad Stampers, etc.) at car
boot sales, fetes, fairs and exhibitions. Even if you can only spare us a
couple of hours every couple of months you could be a great help.
- We need product designers to work with the Scrapstore to turn our
scrap into useful activity kits. Are you a dedicated scrapper willing to
share your secrets?
- We need designers, engineers, sorters and packers to help us turn the
boxes of Connect-O-Mech parts into useful activity kits. Are you free any
evenings next week (14th-18th April)?
- We need van drivers, shop helpers, paint sorters and scrap arrangers.
If you would like to find out more call the store on 01865 761113 or .
