New Year / New Stock
We've entered the new year and the new term as we mean to go on... with
loads of new goodies. On top of the materials we have collected ourselves we
have been busy swapping with other scrapstores to ensure that we all offer
the biggest range of scrap with creative potential.
We've also had a huge delivery of art and craft materials from Oasis Art
- makers of Reeves paint. We have the full Reeves Reddimix range (including
metallic and fluorescents). We have fresh supplies of glitter gels in gold,
silver and crystal. We now stock a selection of Tulip fabric paints and
coloured modelling clay. If there's anything you want that we currently
don't stock let us know and we'll see what we can do. |

Fancy a Wild Night Out? - Saturday 24th January...
You might have met Howie Watkins on one of your visits to the store.
Howie is the Secretary and CEO of Orinoco. He also has a dark secret... he
is a former minor celebrity and once presented television programmes
including the 'Really Wild Show' for BBC1.
Howie has teamed up with local music group the Shotover Chamber Choir to
cash in on his 'celebrity' status in order to raise money and buy toys /
books for the Children's casualty department at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
On Saturday January 24th at 7pm in All Saints Church in Lime Walk,
Headington (just round the corner from Orinoco) Howie and the choir will be
performing a selection of fabulous music on the theme of the variety of
life. Howie will also be teaching the audience a range of useful animal
communication skills - handy in any situation.
Entrance is £5 (under-16s free). Tickets on the door. |

Fueled for Thought
Orinoco now sells Biodiesel made by
Goldenfuels of Oxford.
This is fuel made from waste cooking oil and it's fabulous, we use in the
Orinoco Van. The fuel runs in ordinary diesel engines without any
modification necessary and can be mixed with mineral diesel without
problems.
We're selling it in 20l containers at two prices: £18.50 if you ask for
heating oil and £20 if you ask for diesel. It's the same stuff, there's just
a duty difference between the two. We know, mad. But there you are. Get
yourself along and buy some (ahem) heating oil. All legal and above board,
we have the paperwork. There is a £2 deposit if you take the container away. |

Swap Shops: 13th December & 10th January
Lord Mayor of Oxford Cllr. Susanna Pressel opened the December swap and
stayed to chat to Orinoco volunteers and swappers. Cllr Pressel is a keen
swap shopper and so pitched in with setting out and (of course) grabbing
some stuff.
Both the December and January swap shops were well attended. In December
180 people rescued 450kg of stuff and in January 140 valiantly saved 570kg
of stuff from a tragic end in a landfill. |

Valentines Day Swap - February 14th
Come along and dump stuff you no longer love and start a promising new
relationship with new stuff you
fancy. Remember, you can take stuff without leaving stuff, you don't have to
haggle and it's all free.
